Hannah and Ethan have been asleep for a little while, so I thought quickly put this up before I forget or they wake up.  I have a fun project in mind for the Letter H.  But I am going to keep you in suspense momentarily.  But I will give you a teaser.  It will be BIG in size.  Here is the box for H.

Number and Letter Cards

Months ago I saw a post (Frugal Family Fun Blog) on making your own letter set, since then I have wanted to make some of my own.  They were just about the easiest thing I have made so far.  To make them you peel off the backing from the felt letters/numbers and place them on the wooden pieces.  You could easily modify it and use card stock instead of wood. I'm really happy with the way they turned out too.  Now all I need to do is come up with some activities for Hannah to use them.

The circles are a little larger than a Toonie.

Washing and Waiting

All day today, I loved being able to tell Hannah and Ethan that Daddy would be back soon.  We had a really good day too.  We went to tea at my grandma's house.  Then by the time we finished some grocery shopping and arrived back home, it was time for lunch and then naps.  Hannah really wanted (asked me several times) to do some washing.  I promised to have something ready for her when she woke up.  I put a tub of soapy warm water for her on the the little table outside for her to wash up her toys.  She washed toys for a VERY long time carefully placing the cleaned toys in the bin beside her.
Washing toys out in the sun, what could be better?

Hard at work.

All clean.
Of course the highlight of our day was having Daddy home!!!!

Letter G wrap up

I can't believe we finished.  We did quite a few different things for the letter G, I think all of us (including Ethan) enjoyed the activities.  It was a lot of fun seeing Ethan get involved and playing with Hannah and I.  G took extra long but thats okay, I really am looking forward to Letter H.  Here is a look back at G:

Letter G Box

Ethan getting right into it.

We did tow types of play dough fun.  Both super easy to set up and a blast for my play dough loving girl.
Gardening play dough.

Hannah also played with the g cookie cutter.

We had a great lunch with GG

We sponge stamped grapes.
We collaged the letter G.

We matched colored pom poms to the matching colored goat. (The goat printable is from Tot school printables).

Hannah and Ethan enjoyed the green sensory salad.
Finally, yesterday we concluded with a game of golf.  I found this set at the dollar store (yeah).  I also took some plastic cups leftover from the last birthday party and staked them down with tent pegs.  Then we tried to knock the balls into the cups.
Getting ready for his tee time.

Hannah was Ethan's Caddy.

Go Hannah.

They may have confused golf and hockey.

Hole in one.

Onto the letter H.

The calm before the storm.

I'm not going to lie.  The last 2 days have been hard.  Andrew is away and I have had bad headaches.  In an effort to run off the abundance of energy and to dissipate the noise they make, we have spent a lot of time outside.  Thankfully, the weather has been great.  Never-the-less, I have been struggling.  Its moments like these that I keep two thoughts very close by.  First, that my strength is not enough and only God alone can hold me up.  Secondly, I am unable to comprehend families who have spouses that work away or overnight.  Here is a little of what we did yesterday.
We played.

Ethan added to our chalk drawings (and the he wrote on my chair, the mat, the house.  Don't have a clue what I was doing).

Looks like an a, my budding genius.

Hannah played in the pool.

We made lots of food out of sand.  (Hannah especially likes to make ice cream, cookies, and pancakes).

Ethan helped too.

This boy would sleep in this car if I let him.

We painted with water at Hannah's request.

Ethan "helped".

Only a 2 year old paints like this.

Mommy played paparazzi.

It ended when Ethan got rough. (Joking, he is spraying her with water).

Then I remembered it was Friday.  Here is Hannah's second drawing.

Lines and a brush.

Big Girl Bed revisited

The transition to the big girl bed has gone exceptionally well.  She loves it.  For the first couple of nights and naps she only got up once or twice (usually within the first 10 mins of bedtime).  It was really cute, but we have been pretty firm about making her go back and staying in bed.  We put a safety knob on her doorknob after the first night, which of course she figured out immediately.  During her nap yesterday (I mean the time is which she should be napping because she did not sleep) she left her room at least a dozen times.  One time, while I was downstairs, she left her room and hung out in my bedroom for who know long.  She was looking out the window when daddy came home from work.  While trying to contain my frustration at the non-napping (I also had a huge headache) I switched the safety knob for another model (more difficult), which she then figured out in three turns of the knob.  I really should be proud of her fine motor skills and her problem solving ability.  But mostly, I just wanted her to go to sleep. Eventually, she woke up Ethan and all attempts at confining her were halted.

Hannah's first night in her big bed.  (It should be mentioned that Andrew vehemently apposed the taking of this picture, but I wanted it preserved for posterity)
Last night went so much better (but she was tired).  She did not try to escape. Hahaha.  She couldn't have even if she wanted to try.  Before bed, with the help of some duct tape and cardboard, I eliminated all potentials for escape.  When I was little, my brother and I used to play this game where we would tie each other up or lock each other into rooms and then time ourselves to see who could escape fastest.  I (no humility) became very good both skills.

Later in the evening, Andrew checked on Hannah and found that she was not in bed.

She was on the floor by the door.  Oh my lovely daughter.  You are your mothers daughter.  When I was Hannah's age I used to crawl behind the door in my bedroom, only to have them open the door on my head nearly every night.  It got to be such a problem that the doctor suggested that they tie me into bed.
