Been so hard to find a minute to get this done sometime this week. We had a visit from Andrew's parents and then after they left both Hannah and Ethan got the flu. This post is what we did schoolwise last week (Jan 27th to Jan 31st).
Preschool Week 17
Bible: From our Jesus Storybook Bible we read the "The Good Shepard" which is a paraphrase of Psalm 23. We did a very cute craft that I pulled from to different crafts I saw and combined together (here and here).I love that Hannah wrote the words all by herself. :D
Language Arts and Handwriting:
This week we played a few beginning sounds games. One called "Tee it Up" and one called "Clip the Letter". Both of these are from Make Take & Teach.
This week in our handwriting book Hannah and Ethan worked on diagonal lines by practicing triangles and diamonds.

This is "Tee it Up". Basically you shove a golf tee through the hole of the letter that matched the beginning sound of the picture. Here is Ethan doing a for Alligator.
I like this because it has a self check component so they know if they got it right without my help.
"Clip the Letter" is as simple as it sounds. You attach the clothespin letter to complete the word.
The added fine motor skill practice was very good for Ethan.

Making shapes out of the wooden pieces. Love Hannah's all done cheer!
Practicing ABC order. Hannah worked on lowercase while Ethan worked on uppercase.
Of course then all the letter needed to be put away.

Math: I pulled out one of the cookie sheet activities that I got here.
Hannah and Ethan also played a game called "find the missing number.
We played for smarties which also made it a lot of fun.

Since this was the first time we have done anything like this we did it together a few times and then Hannah and Ethan each picked a number to do themselves. Hannah chose number 4.
Ethan chose number 2. This activity works on identifying the numbers before/after, numeral-number word matching (we didn't do this time), counting using a 10-frame and using tallies to represent numbers.
They each got their number cards from 0 through 10. I removed 1 number and set it infron of them upside down. There task was to sort the remaining numbers in order to figure out which number was missing. LOVED this game. We played with 1, 2 , and 3 numbers missing many times throughout the week.

Art: Nothing specific.
Science:
We remeasured our Amaryllis. Which measured in at 29 cm up from 13 cm the week before.
As a combo art/science project. Hannah and Ethan used their nature collections to make collages (non-permanent as no glue was used). I used a piece of white paper taped to their tray. To not only contain the mess but to give a defined work area for the collage.
I loved this activity because it is a lot of fun listening to their commentary as they work. The chatted about the objects they were using as well as what they were creating. You can see Ethan's final collage above.
