Preschool Week 20 (Feb 17th to 21st)
Bible: We read "No More Tears" from our Jesus Storybook Bible. It focuses on Isaiah's prophecies. One of the lines was "This is the message that God gave Isaiah (It was like a letter God wrote to his children)...". So we made a scroll craft to represent God's love for his people and the message he sent.
Reading: Books, Books, Books.

Ethan needed a little extra help with the letter Q so I made a outline for him to trace with water.
Hannah's Queen Q. I like her mischievous grin.

Math: Hannah and Ethan learned all about symmetry.

(Montessori at Home(Math Section)
First I used foam hearts to explain symmetry.
Then we used a mirror and some pattern blocks to play with the idea.
Ethan thought the mirror was great.
In this picture he is laughing because he can feel his hand but he can't see it.
Making symmetrical patterns.
Hannah made hers very complicated but managed to figure it out.
Ethan's was simpler and enjoyed using the mirror to see if it had been done properly.
We also did some basic addition from 1-6 using our bears as part of lesson 27.

Art: Symmetry Art.
First with our dot markers.
This was a little difficult because Hannah and Ethan were both so slow that their dots dried so the design didn't transfer completely.
Then we did it again but with paint which worked much better.
First fold a piece of paper in half. Open it up again. Paint one side of the paper. Fold the paper and have your kids press down on the paper with their hands.
They can rub across the paper to spread the paint. Then open the paper to see the symmetrical designs.
Ethan said his was a butterfly, and Hannah's a flower garden.
Science: The weather perfectly timed for this science.
Usually it thwarts my plans so this made me very happy!
Usually it thwarts my plans so this made me very happy!
They compared their fake snow from last year with some real snow. Here they are comparing the textures and temperatures.
Real
Fake.
Then we watched what happened when you shake salt on both.
The fake snow turns to gel in seconds.
I froze some of the fake snow so that it would be the same temperature as real snow and they compared the too. The fake snow was rock hard.
Then Hannah play laboratory.
Just for fun:
