Q wrap & Letter R box

This will be a 2 for 1 post; not only (as you have probably surmised from the title) is it a look back at the past week it is also a look forward to the upcoming week.  We had a pretty quiet week of activities.  Hannah and I did have fun but Ethan was pretty uninterested all week.  Here are some of the pictures from our week:

Pin poking the letter Q, this was a hit.
Hannah enjoyed the poking in general and did not even once poke her finger.  She especially enjoyed flipping the paper over and feeling the bumps.

We practiced counting with the Q-tips.  Hannah is very interested in counting and numbers right now so I am following her lead.

We made Q-tip pictures.  On the left she made some string and the right is a box.

Hannah made her Q quilt.  Ethan ate the foam pieces.

Hannah dotted happily.  Ethan ate his dot marker.

This was the only activity to hold Ethan's attention.  Hannah preferred the cookie cutter Q and Ethan liked pushing the foam letter into the dough.  Ethan was exiled eventually because he wanted to eat both the foam Q and the dough.  Either I don't feed him enough or he ready to pop out his last tooth.

This week we will be working on our Letter R activities.  I am looking forward to a very colorful week of activities.  

Letter R Box: Rose, rock, ring, Letter R and  the R bean bag.

Rainbow dot art.  This is an activity I saw on The Princess and the Tot.  She has a lovely printable version but my printer is on the fritz so I did it by hand.  The are little x's that are hard to see under each dot to stamp.

This activity is inspired by those very cool wooden rainbows stacking toys.  I made a paper version , it's a good activity for color recognition, sorting by size, as well as learning the rainbow color order.

Finally, rain cloud counting.  There are five clouds numbered 1 to 5 with enough cotton balls to count out  each number.

I is for ice cream

Hannah and I had some fun the other day with her activities.  We started after her nap and she continued until dinner.  I couldn't believe how focused she was working through different activities.  Including the two new activities below, she also played with play dough, matched farm animals to pictures, used the dot markers, and did some transferring work.  Here are the new activities we did for the letter I:

The idea behind this activity was pattern making.  I would make a pattern using the  ice cream scoops, then Hannah needed to make a matching ice cream cone.

She liked choosing colors to make ice cream cones.

She pushed it all aside and asked for the glue stick.
I guess shes not quite ready for patterns.

We added come cotton ball whipped cream.

Color matching with the letter I.  Hannah need to place each wooden circle on the appropriately colored dot.

Her favorite thing to do is to hold her hand over the matching spot and say  "nope not it", just to see what I'll say even though she knows its right.

H is for Hats

Today, is my grandma's birthday, Hannah affectionately calls her GG, so yesterday we made her a birthday card.  I stuck on the letters to spell out "I love you GG" but I only had lower case letters. Hahahaha oh well.  Hannah then decorated her card with some foam stars and hearts.

She was in a pretty wacky mood.

I think she did a great job and I know GG will love it.

Then continuing along in our H activities, I gathered up every hat in the house I could find.  We played dress  up and Hannah decided who owned each hat.

I think Daddy's tuque is still a little big baby boy.

Too small

Just right (not quite).  This is one of Ethan's baby hats but it is really stretchy.

Afterwards, I hid all of the hats all around the room for Hannah and Ethan to find and bring back to the basket (or wear).

She went to sleep so well last night that I credit the running from this game (or maybe the trip to the river) either way I was thankful.

Hannah thought Ethan should wear a hat too,  Ethan wasn't  into that idea (it could have been Hannah forcefully trying to jam it on his head).

This is a sorting activity with those colored H's (I have no idea what they are actually for, so if you do let me know).  The idea is to take the H's out of the hard hat and place them in the appropriate colored dish.

She did so well, this is the first time she has completed a sorting activity.  Good Job Hannah.

Finally, Hannah drew her picture in her dictation drawing book.
She had quite an animated story this week about GG and her birthday.

Wooden Color Disks

I really enjoyed making the alphabet and number circles so much that I knew I wanted to find something fun for the wooden circles I had left over.  Colors.  I just modge podged on a colored circle onto each disk.  I think I would like to make another set so that we can play a matching game with them too.   Then there would be more leftovers.  Oooh I like that idea.  If you don't have Mod Podge don't fret you can make your own, just mix  50% glue and 50% water in a clean jar.

Letter G wrap up

I can't believe we finished.  We did quite a few different things for the letter G, I think all of us (including Ethan) enjoyed the activities.  It was a lot of fun seeing Ethan get involved and playing with Hannah and I.  G took extra long but thats okay, I really am looking forward to Letter H.  Here is a look back at G:

We did tow types of play dough fun.  Both super easy to set up and a blast for my play dough loving girl.

Hannah and Ethan enjoyed the green sensory salad.

 Finally, yesterday we concluded with a game of golf.  I found this set at the dollar store (yeah).  I also took some plastic cups leftover from the last birthday party and staked them down with tent pegs.  Then we tried to knock the balls into the cups.
